    9:00–12:00 pm

    Instructor: Norm Knott

IDPH and CDC guidelines about face masks will be observed.

Do you have a favorite, outdated piece of clothing that you just can’t part with? Turn it into a one-of-a-kind wearable “art piece.” In this class, you will create your own design pattern, learn how to carve it into a synthetic block, and imprint it onto your piece of clothing. The imprints can then be embellished with paint, fabric paint/glitter, and markers during our process. Additional sewing (trim, quilting, etc.) can be completed at home afterward. When finished…voila!!! A new fashion statement, piece of art, and recycled inspiration for others!

Bring some test scraps of material to practice on and one item of used fabric clothing: jeans, t-shirts, etc. (or even canvas shoes if you’re up for a challenge). If you don’t already have something at home, maybe you find something at the Glitzy Garage Sale or thrift store.  Also, feel free to bring any of your own embellishments. Norm will bring his collection of vintage Asian woodblocks. All embellishing supplies provided.

Intermediate–Advanced. Learn how to make a china or stained-glass pet portrait. You will be making the framed pet portrait from your own pet photo. You will also learn how to make your pet’s nose out of polymer clay.

You will need to bring to class:

    1) Two 12 x 12" photos of your pet one in color and one in black and white. Make sure you have a picture straight on of your pet’s head. If you are worried about your photo or are not able to have it made into two 12 x 12" photos, email the instructor (nlmayhew@charter.net) and she will help you.

    2) Colorful china to use for your portrait. Or, for an exact likeness of your pet, stained-glass that matches your pet’s coat. Plates can be purchased at the Goodwill or any thrift shop. Stained glass and china won’t be used the first class so Nancy can give students better information on china and stained glass choices at the first class.

Nancy will provide the 12 x 12" frames and the polymer clay.
