New Dimensions
The New Dimensions Studio is an integral part of Womanspace, dedicated to creative education and artistic growth in the Rockford, IL area. This building was designed to support the skillful practice of the fine arts while strengthening the cultural life of northern IL and the stateline community.
The upstairs and downstairs studios provide space for both structured classes and independent creative exploration.
Both levels of the New Dimensions building are accessible. A chair lift is available on the stairs leading to the lower clay studio to support individuals with walking disabilities.
Upper Studio
The upper studio is a bright, flexible art space used for painting, drawing, and other art and fine crafts classes. Programs may include watercolor, acrylic, oil painting, collage, pastels, and other visual art forms.
In addition to art instruction, the upper studio is sometimes used for non-art programs, workshops, and community meetings.
A spacious outdoor deck is accessible from the upper studio, offering a beautiful gathering space overlooking Womanspace gardens. The deck provides additional room for reflection, conversation, or creative inspiration.
Small storage lockers are available for members to rent, allowing artists in multi-session classes to securely store their supplies on site.
Lower Studio (Clay Studio)
The lower level houses our fully equipped clay studio, supporting wheel-throwing, hand building, and clay sculpture. As a working pottery studio in Rockford, IL, this space includes kilns and on-site clay firing managed by instructors and volunteers.
Students focus on developing their skills in forming, shaping, and glazing their work, while the technical firing process is handled by Womanspace to ensure quality and safety.
Open Studio
For a nominal fee, Open Studio time in the clay studio is available to Womanspace students who have completed at least two pottery or ceramics classes with Womanspace. Open Studio provides dedicated time to continue practicing and developing skills in a supportive, shared studio environment.
